A new drug called Provenge is in the approval process with the FDA. The drug was developed by Dendreon. Provenge is believed to have less side effects than other drugs currently approved for use in advanced cases of prostate malignancy. Some of the side effects for Provenge are said to be similar to a case of the flue and generally cease after 2 or 3 days. The side effects of some other deaths are serious enough that they may result in death in 1-2% of the patients given the drug.
Provenge has had clinical trials, conducted by Dendreon, to extend life up to as much as 4 1/2 months for serious patients. Because of the FDA approval process and the amount of information required for the FDA, this drug may not be approved until as late as 2010. There are already several lawsuits filed on the decision not to approve the drug in 2007.

The best use is where the cancer is localized within the prostate. When it is localized the doctors are able to treat the tumors with a new needle called a croyoneedle. This treatment is very precise.
Improvements in transrectal ultrasound and switching to helium gases and argon, instead of liquid nitrogent, the treatment is more effective than in the past. It is only a minor invasive procedure, so there is little loss of blood and most patients will go home at the end of the day. If other conditions exist the patient may be kept overnight to ensure there are no complications caused by the Croytherapy.
All prostate cancer new treatments should be discussed with your personal doctor. Don’t hesitate to get a second opinion if you have a serious condition.
